Pike Place Market Tourist Stop Not A Trap 1531 Western Ave Seattle Washington
Pike Place Market might be a tourist stop for over ten million Seattle visitors every year, but it is not a tourist trap. Overlooking the waterfront, it is a huge part of Seattle’s identity, and is as colorful, diverse, and historic as the city itself. In operation since 1907, Pike Place is the country’s most successful farmer’s market. Here, you will find an amazing array of independently grown fruits and vegetables, fresh seafood, and gorgeous flower bouquets sold year round. And, keep in mind, all this right in the downtown of a major metropolis.
The Pike Place Market is also known for its funky shops,
unique artisan stands, and the fish tossing and catching done by some very
coordinated fisherman. Pike Place is a favorite venue for talented street
performers and musicians, and on any given day, you can hear a violinist, an
Eddie Vedder wannabe, and a gospel group on a two-block stretch. This is an
excellent place to buy a special souvenir for someone back home (may I
recommend a one of a kind, novelty wind up toy?), as well as a good way to
support local Seattle business. If you are hungry, try clam chowder, some of
the homemade donuts that smell so good, or go into one of the numerous
little cafes that dot the Market’s many levels. There are also some of
Seattle’s most elegant restaurants nestled into the cozy corners of Pike
Place. This is a great place to go people watching, and experience some
authentic Seattle culture. On any day of the week, the Market is sure to be
packed with tourists and locals alike, as both frequent it. Pike Place
Market is representative of Seattle in every way:
