Seattle Center is the heart of the city of Seattle and the major place where culture meets community. The Seattle Center is comprised of theaters, museums, music halls, pavilions and a number of other areas to entertain and educate visitors. The Space Needle towers over all of Seattle Center's attractions and is a wonderful place to get a 360 degree view of Seattle. Underneath the Space Needle lies the Pacific Science Center, which has a number of activities for adults and children. The basic admission fee is $10 for adults and $7 for children 3-12 years old, but for a few extra dollars you can also catch a film in one the Seattle Center's two IMAX movie theaters. One can easily spend an entire afternoon wandering through the Science Center checking out its engaging exhibits. If you don't have an entire afternoon to spare, catch a laser light show at the Laser Dome. Shows usually run about an hour and include music from artists such as The Beatles and Pink Floyd.
Other major attractions at Seattle Center include McCaw Hall, home of the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Seattle Opera; the Seattle Center House, featuring a food court with both local and international food selections; Memorial Stadium, a wonderful place to watch an outdoor concert; Key Arena, hosting professional basketball, semiprofessional hockey, concerts and other events; Experience Music Project, a futuristic museum dedicated to Rock and Roll; and Seattle Repertory Theater, presenting class-act plays. In addition to paying attractions, one can spend hours just wandering throughout the area, gazing at the International Fountain, or just hanging out in one of the Seattle Center's many green spaces. The Seattle Center is definitely a place you will not want to miss.
